What Are Action Icons?

Sustainable Action Icons make it easy for you to see how involved students are in sustainability. Icons appear next to student names even before you click to view a profile!

What Does Each Icon Stand For?

A green paw print is earned for each credit received in a course on sustainability. When a course is added it must include the course number, name of course, semester taken, professor of course, professor’s contact information and a brief description of the course and the education you received on sustainability.

Projects on sustainability completed in courses, capstone designs, honors theses or independent studies can also earn green paw prints based on credit.    The same course information must be included as well as a description of the project.

Students can earn green paw prints for courses taken during any semester in their college career. A copy of their degree audit must be uploaded to prove successful completion of courses. The degree audit will only be visible by the student and the administrator.

Leaves are earned through involvement in participating organizations. The number of leaves a student earns is based on their level of involvement. Students can earn up to four leaves per organization, per semester. Each organization determines how much involvement is necessary to receive a leaf in their organization. For a list of participating organizations and how to earn leaves please visit “Sustainable Involvement Opportunities.” If there is an organization you would like to see participate that is not currently please submit an application.

Students receive leaves for their involvement in organizations starting in Fall 2009. They will be received at the end of each semester.

Trees are earned for the successful completion of an internship. For each 70 hours of an internship, one tree is earned. Students must include a brief description of their responsibilities at the internship and the company at which it took place as well as the contact information of their supervisor.

As long as this is completed, students are able to receive trees for any green internship completed during their college career.

Suns are earned for the attendance of conferences on sustainability issues. For each day (or any portion of a day) of attendance at a conference, students will earn one sun. (Two days = two suns, three days = three suns, etc.)

To receive suns students must include the name, location and planner of the conference as well as a brief description of the topics covered. Suns will be received for conferences attended starting in the Fall of 2009.
